Youth Involvement

We believe kids are our community's future shelter ambassadors!

While the age requirement to volunteer at Five Acres is 16, we offer creative ideas for youth in our community to get involved with helping our pets from home.

Check out some suggestions below!

Volunteer with Me Program

Youth volunteers between the ages of 12 and 18 are able to volunteer alongside an adult as long as that adult is an active shelter volunteer! The adult volunteer must complete our volunteer application and onboarding before applying for this program. The roles available are:

  • Kitty Cottage Cleaning (ages 12+)
  • Puppy Cleaning (ages 12+)
  • Canine Kennel Cleaning & Laundry/Dishes (ages 16+)

If you’re ready to jump into our program, please complete this application! (if completing on a mobile device, please use this link)

Hold a donation drive!

Check out our shelter wish list and coordinate a donation drive to gather supplies in your neighborhood, classroom, church or scout troop.

Create fun posters and decorate collection boxes to put out. Encourage others through social media to participate!

Once you have supplies to drop off at Five Acres, email our Community Engagement Manager, Mallary, to set-up a drop-off time. We’ll take you on a tour of the shelter and introduce you to some adoptable animals.

DIY toys and supplies for our shelter pets!

All of the items above are used daily by our shelter pets.

Scout Troop Visits

If you are a scout troop leader interested in visiting Five Acres to fulfill a badge or animal program, please email our Community Engagement Manager, Mallary, to learn more about options we can provide at Five Acres.
