How do volunteers help out at Five Acres?

Our Volunteers work in at least one role to support our team as they care for our animals. Almost all volunteers commit to regular weekly shifts to ensure that our team has all the help they need.

Volunteer Program FAQ’s:

What are your minimum requirements for volunteering at Five Acres?

  • Aged 18+
  • Have active health insurance
  • Access to a smart phone, tablet, or computer to use the our volunteer platform
  • Commit to a weekly volunteer shift
  • Commit to volunteering for at least 6 hours monthly for at least 6 month
  • Must meet the Essential Capabilities of Five Acres Animal Shelter Volunteers needed to volunteer safely
  • Ability to adhere to/follow all policies and guidelines

What are the volunteer roles at Five Acres?

  • Dog walkers
  • Dog enrichment
  • Puppy attendants
  • Dog kennel cleaners
  • Cat caregiving

  • AniMeals Pet Food Pantry attendant
  • Front desk reception
  • Maintenance support
  • Spay/neuter clinic assistant

Steps to become a Five Acres volunteer:

  1. Complete a new Volunteer Application.

  2. Complete the Online New Volunteer Orientation.
  3. Meet with Mallary to see the shelter and schedule next steps.
  4. Complete an in-person shadow training
